I found yesterday extremely educational, depressing and motivating all in the same day. I loved the Culinary Institute. WOW, wish I had had that as a HS student. Cindy Rose
I didn't get a chance to share my shadowing experience, but I really enjoyed hearing about everybody else's. I spent the day with Scott Jamison, a 7th grde geography teacher at Oak View Middle in Newberry. Very positive experience. Two main themes I walked away with...
1) Since geography isn't an FCAT-test subject, this teacher gets more freedom in how he teaches his class...though certainly he weaves in lots of reading/writing which ARE a part of the FCAT.
2) Much more than being a geography scholar, Scott Jamison 'gets' what makes a 7th grader tick. He understands the chaotic energy and raging hormones and uses it to his benefit in the classrooom. He was equal parts teacher and Robin Williams...and the students really connect with him as a result.
